The MSRH: supporting world-class science
By expanding Chemistry's capacity for research and innovation, the Department's move to the White City Campus will advance research across six societal and industrial challenges:
- chemical biology and healthcare;
- environmental and green chemistry;
- imaging and sensing and analytical chemistry;
- materials and molecular design;
- synthesis and catalysis.
It is in these six challenge areas where the Department of Chemistry's research is poised to make the greatest contribution, and where its resonance with other disciplines is greatest. Alongside fundamental science breakthroughs it is around these challenges that Chemistry will pool its resources, both intellectual and financial, and against which it will orientate academic and research student recruitment.
These six challenges embody the Department's vision of Chemistry at Imperial: outward-facing, collaborative, cross-disciplinary, rooted in fundamental research in the chemical and molecular sciences, but poised to respond to industrial and societal problems.
