The Imperial Bursary is available to MBBS (A100) students in the first four years of their six year programme.  In addition, the level of NHS funding available in years 5 and 6, compared to funding from the Student Loans Company in years 1 to 4, makes meeting the Cost of living in London in the latter two years more difficult.  The College has been working with its student representatives to find ways to help minimise the impact of less funding in years 5 and 6 for medical students.

As a consequence, MBBS students who are in a receipt of an Imperial Bursary can choose to either receive their funding over the first four years of their study or to receive their four year funding over six years.

The 4 Year payment option

The 4 year option is the default Imperial Bursary payment option.  Students who are on a four year programme will receive their full bursary each year paid in equal instalments.

Further information is available on our Imperial Bursary page.

The 6 Year payment option

The 6 year option of the Imperial Bursary is available only to 6 year MBBS (A100) students.  Between years 1 and 4 we will put aside 25% of your Imperial Bursary each year.  We will then pay half of your saved Imperial Bursary in years 5 and 6 respectively.  You will accrue 1% interest on any saved bursary in years 1-5 and be paid to you in your final year.

Bursary payments will be paid in 8 instalments from 7 November until 7 June in year 1. In subsequent years your bursary will be paid in 9 instalments from 7 October to 7 June.

Students who will start in 2016 and 2017

Interest of 1% will be applied each year to the total amount put aside from years 1 to 5 which may change if your household income changes.
