The aim of sport at Imperial is to be as inclusive as possible. That’s why we offer free access to gym and swimming facilities, and plenty of encouragement to help you stay active all year round.
The range of clubs available spans both modern and traditional sports as well as over 10 different martial arts, welcoming people at all levels.
As an added incentive for you to get involved, our Students' Union contributes towards the cost of our clubs to make it a little bit cheaper to keep doing a sport you love or to try something new.
Don't worry if your favourite sport is not currently represented amongst our choice, as you can get help from the Union to start your own club.
For students who don't want the the commitment of joining a sports club, we run a taster programme – Impetus – that gives you the chance to try out a number of sports, with professional coaches on hand to help you improve your technique.
Read about our student blogger Amanda's experience of joining the rowing club as a beginner.
Our flagship sports centre Ethos is right at the heart of our South Kensington Campus so it's easy to hit the treadmill during lunch or pop for a quick swim in the pool.
The facilities are such a high standard that it regularly plays host to professional sports teams, recently including the London Lions basketball team and the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team.
You can follow in their footsteps free of charge throughout your time here, though a one-off fitness orientation fee applies (£40 in 2016–17) before you can use our high-spec gym equipment. Once completed you can use any Sport Imperial-owned gym across our campuses.
Find out more about our facilities on the Sport Imperial website.
If you are aspiring to be, or already are, competing at national or international level you may be eligible for a scholarship to help you continue performing at the highest level. Find out more about our sports scholarships on the Sport Imperial website.
Health and fitness
Our Active Lifestyles team organises a range of activities that prioritise fun and fitness over competition to make sure that ability is no barrier to anyone who wants to stay in shape.
Fast classes in the gym, boot camps, nutrition workshops, and a wellbeing programme are just some of the options available to motivate you.
You can also take part in a huge range of dance and exercise classes, take on a climbing challenge on our 9-metre climbing wall, or engage a qualified personal trainer to put you through your paces.
