Using student card to get a laptopYour College identity card is a necessary feature of life at Imperial and has a number of really important functions:

  • access to your department and your hall of residence
  • membership of the Library and the sports centre
  • discounts in campus catering outlets as well as places across London
  • security – it tells us who people are and helps us to keep everyone safe

If your card is lost or stolen, please report this as soon as possible to the Security Office on Level 1 of the Sherfield Building at our South Kensington Campus (telephone +44 (0)20 7594 8906 or email id.card@imperial.ac.uk). They are able to issue replacement cards.

Student ID information

Collecting your ID (students living in Halls)

If you have uploaded a photograph as part of the registration process, you will be issued with your College ID card by your Warden on your arrival or at the safety talk for your Hall. The option to upload a photograph into Student e-Service is only available up until the day before your course start date.

If you did not upload a photograph, you will be issued with a guest card by your Warden, which is valid for a limited time only.

To obtain a fully validated College ID card you will need to go to the ID Card Office (located on Level 1 of the Sherfield Building, next to the HSBC cash machine) where you will have your picture taken.

If this is during Week One, your ID card will be sent to your departmental administrator for distribution at the departmental safety talk.

If you arrive after Week One, you will need to go to the ID Card Office where you will be issued with your ID card immediately after having your photo taken.

See the ID Card Office opening times.
