Plastic Electronics

Plastic electronics is widely recognised as a vital and rapidly growing platform technology with the potential to impact on multiple application sectors. This includes sectors that closely address our priority themes in energy, environment and healthcare.

Specific application sectors addressed by the Centre, and that offer excellent opportunities for science and technology impact and funding relevance, include Solar Energy, Solid State Lighting, Pervasive Electronics, Displays, Imaging and Sensing Arrays, and Photonics. Our Mission

  • To integrate and coordinate the plastic electronics research activity within Imperial College London, bringing together an interdisciplinary team from across faculties, departments and research groups
  • To actively stimulate new plastic electronics research activities 
  • To identify and cultivate appropriate funding opportunities to leverage resource 
  • To establish an exciting program of scientific outreach, training and industrial interaction including training schools, showcase meetings, and internship programmes
  • To meet Imperial's strategic intent to catalyse cutting-edge high impact interdisciplinary research to address major challenges
  • To develop links to other UK-funded plastic electronics institutes: OMIC (Manchester University/NWDA), PETEC/CPI (One North East, Durham University), WCPC (Swansea University, WDA), CIKC (Cambridge University, EEDA)

Centre for Doctoral Training in Plastic Electronics

The aim of the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) is to graduate students with interdisciplinary experience and capability in the science and applications of plastic electronic materials and devices, with an understanding of the associated industry, and with the ability to adapt and develop new technologies and applications.

The Centre is based at Imperial College but includes Oxford University (Physics and Materials Departments) and Queen Mary University of London (School of Engineering and Materials).
