The EM Centre comprises a state-of-the-art TEM infrastructure for molecular (single particle) and cellular microscopy at room- and cryo-temperatures:
- FEI Tecnai 12 (LaB6); CCD camera (F216, TVIPS)
- FEI Tecnai G2 Spirit BioTWIN (Tungsten); CCD camera (Eagle)
- Philips CM200 (FEG); CCD camera (F416, TVIPS)
- FEI Tecnai G2 F20 TWIN (FEG); Direct Electron Detector (Falcon II)
Moreover, we have a Vitrobot Mark III for sample vitrification and several cryo transfer holders (e.g Gatan 626 and 914) with and without high tilt capabilities for tomography and single particle data collection, respectively. A High Pressure Freezing apparatus (EMPACT 2, Leica) and Ultramicrotomes (for ambient and cryo temperatures) are also available for the optimal preservation of cellular ultra structure and their sectioning. A recent addition is a high-performance Scanninng Electron Microsope (JSM-6390, JEOL).
Besides two sample preparation laboratories, the centre includes a dark room for development of micrographs, scanning facilities to digitise images and large parallel computer farms for image processing.
