As a user of the Imperial College Advanced Hackspace, you will have access to a network of facilities across the college campuses. These include electrical and mechanical engineering workshops, a digital fabrication space, physical computing workspace, as well as linking machinery with relevant skills in labs across the university. Digital Manufacturing

Location: 10 Princes Gardens
Access Times: 09:00 – 18:00, Monday to Friday
Requirements: 3D printing Induction (Online)

The hub of all our 3D printers, providing a one-stop centre for Fused-Deposition-Modelling (FDM) printing. We also provide use of a laser cutter, CNC Mill, SLA (stereolithography) printer and vinyl cutter. In addition it is also home of our growing materials library, which showcases the materials which our members can use plus more exciting samples, such as bouyant concrete, dragon skin (silicone) and polyfloss.

Electronics and Robotics

Location: 506 EEE (Electrical and Electronic Engineering)
Access Times: 09:00 – late, Monday to Friday
Requirements: Sign EEE health and safety agreement.

Imperial College Robotics Society (ICRS) space in EEE forms the electronics and robotics node, where members can test their hardware electronic prototypes; solder their components, design their PCBs and laser cut – note you must complete the laser cutting induction. Classes are also run by ICRS and we recommend that you sign up to ICRS access these.

Wood, Plastic and Resin Workshop

Location: Skempton 238
Access Times: 08:30 – 16:30 Monday to Friday (powered access), 08:30 – 22:00 Monday to Friday (benchwork).
Requirements: Postgraduates and staff only, complete induction and half-day training.

Inductions: Induction and training session needs to be completed. Induction session are ran twice per term, please contact the ICAH team to register your interest.

This large workshop gives members access to powered wood and plastics machinery, ventilated resin room as well as a substantial bench area for working on and assembling projects.

Big Thinking

Location: Pink Room – Skempton 237
Access Times: Weekends only
Requirements: None
The Pink Room is space dedicated for big thinking and group work. With three out of four walls made out of whiteboard you can let your thinking flow, without being confined to post-it notes. Access during the weekends only.

Synthetic Biology

Location: Chemistry Building

Requirements: Case by case basis.ICAH will arrange a meeting with the lab owner. Health and safety and COSHH documents must be submitted.
Part of the ICB CDT, the Bio Fab Lab is where members can work on their biochemistry-related projects. It gives you access to microfluidics, PCR machines and cell cultures. Access is on a case by case basis, ICAH will arrange a meeting with the lab owner.

Heart Research Laboratory

Location: Hammersmith Campus
Access Times: As per Agreement
Requirements: Case by case basis.ICAH will arrange a meeting with the lab owner. Health and safety and COSHH documents must be submitted.

Part of the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI), the Heart Research Lab is a great resource for any member who wants to work on a heart-related project, regarless what their background. Access is on a case by case basis, ICAH will arrange a meeting with the lab owner.
