Student Numbers

This graph shows student numbers (headcount) between 2011-12 and 2015-16. Total student numbers have increased by 8.4% between 2011-12 and 2015-16, with undergraduate student numbers increasing by 2.6%, taught postgraduate numbers increasing by 22.4%, and research postgraduate numbers increasing by 11%.

Data is sourced from Imperial College Statistics Cards between 2011-12 and 2015-16. Student numbers are based on snapshots taken at 31 December of each year. Please note that MRes students were classified as Postgraduate Research from 2010-11 onwards.

This graph shows the proportion of student numbers by type (undergraduate, taught postgraduate and research postgraduate) from 2011-12 to 2015-16. In 2015-16, undergraduate students made up 55.2% of the student population compared to 58.3%. In 2015-16, taught postgraduate students made up 22.7% of the student population compared to 20.1% in 2011-12, and research postgraduate students made up 22.1% of the student population compared to 21.6% in 2011-12.

Student Fee Status

This graph shows the total number of home/EU, and overseas students (full-time and part-time) from 2011-12 to 2015-16. The increase in the number of home/EU students in 2015-16 compared to 2011-12 was marginal (0.6%). The number of overseas students, however, saw a 30.9% increase in the same period.

Student Gender

This graph shows the total number of male and female students (full-time and part-time) in the College from 2011-12 and 2015-16. There was an increase in the number of male (+6.7%), and female (+11.3%) students compared to 2011-12.
