Erection of hoardings
Hoardings are now being installed around the work site inside the Library across all floors. There is some construction work throughout the day, with associated noise. Noisy work to the structure of the building is restricted to 06.00 - 09.00 Monday to Friday and 08.00 - 13.00 on Saturdays.
Book and furniture moves
Book and furniture moves on all levels are complete. A Store fetching service is in operation for books in the range 750-999 and ESE Series .
Background to the project
Student feedback has highlighted problems with temperature control in the Central Library. This building work, which will represent a substantial investment in the College’s academic and student experience, seeks to address these issues and improve the working environment.
Initial building works are now taking place to allow the full project to go ahead in the summer.
Noisy structural work is scheduled to take place between the hours of 06.00 and 09.00 Monday – Friday and 08.00 – 13.00 on Saturday. There will be periods where there is some lower level construction noise throughout the day but we will work wherever possible to cause minimum disruption to students working in the library. The works will stop entirely in April for the revision and exam period. We will be able to provide further updates as the project plan is refined in the coming months.
The timetabling of the works has been undertaken both with a view to minimising disruption to our services during term time, and to give us the best opportunity possible to deliver material improvements to climate control on the upper two library floors of Central Library towards the beginning of the next academic year.
Hoardings are now being installed around the work site inside the Library across all floors. In order to meet our requirement to halt all work before the revision and exam period, there is some construction work throughout the day, with associated noise.
We are working closely with the contractors to minimise the noise and focus as much of the work as early in the day as possible.
Once the soundproof hoardings are complete any day-to-day work inside it should cause minimal disruption. Noisy work to the structure of the building is restricted to 06.00 - 09.00 Monday to Friday and 08.00 - 13.00 on Saturdays.
For an alternative space to study, why not try our campus libraries?
