Professor Peter Haynes Peter Haynes is Professor of Theory and Simulation of Materials, a post held jointly between the Departments of Materials and Physics and associated with The Thomas Young Centre.

Peter is also the Imperial College London High Performance Computing (HPC) Champion and chairs the HPC Advisory Panel, acting as a strategic advisor and ambassador for HPC in College.

Peter's expertise in HPC comes from his own research focus, using HPC to perform first-principles quantum-mechanical simulations of materials to understand their properties and even to predict the properties of materials that have not yet been made. Much of his work employs the ONETEP linear-scaling method for large-scale simulations of which he is the developer and which was designed from the beginning to exploit the power of HPC.
