A speed dial or abbreviated dial code allows you to dial frequently called numbers with ease.

How do I set up and use abbreviated dials?

Set up an abbreviated dial

  1. Go to https://tdb.ic.ac.uk/selfserv/.
  2. Click on SpeedDials. This will display your configured abbreviated dials.
  3. Click on Edit SpeedDials.
  4. Select the position you want to assign the telephone number to i.e. 1 for 01).
  5. Enter the telephone extension or full telephone number (including 9 or 7 at the beginning depending on whether it is a business number or a personal number).
  6. Enter an identifying label e.g the person's name or 'Home'.
  7. Click Make Changes.
  8. Repeat the above steps until you have entered all of the speed dials you want.
  9. Click Yes to confirm the change.

The system will send an update to your phone before returning to the screen that shows your configured dials. Your handset will reload.

Call an abbreviated dial

  1. Enter the two-digit code that you assigned the telephone number on the telephone keypad with the receiver still on the hook.
  2. Press the AbbrDial or SpeedDial softkey on your Cisco telephone (usually the third key from the left underneath the display screen).

Note: The number of abbreviated dials that can be accessed by pressing the up/down arrows above the keypad while the receiver is on the hook is limited by the telephone model. For Cisco models 7906 and 7911 you can view the first four, for model 6941 the first six and for model 6961 you can view the first sixteen.

  4. Select the position where you would like to add the telephone number (from 01-03 for Cisco model 6941, from 01-11 for Cisco model 6961, 01 for Cisco model 7945, from 01-04 for Cisco model 7965 and from 01-06 for Cisco model 7975).
  5. Enter the telephone extension or full telephone number (including 9 or 7 at the beginning depending on whether it is a business or personal number).
  6. Enter an identifying label such as the person's name or 'Home'.
  7. Click Make Changes.
  8. Repeat the above steps until you have entered all of the speed dials you want.
  9. Click Apply.
  10. Click Yes to confirm the changes.

  1. Press the button that you assigned the telephone number to.
